Description

Gustaf V (Oscar Gustaf Adolf, 1858–1950) was King of Sweden from 1907. Reigning from the death of his father Oscar II in 1907 until his own death 43 years later, he holds the record of being the oldest monarch of Sweden. He was the first Swedish king since the High Middle Ages not to have a coronation and hence never wore a crown, a tradition continuing to date. He represented Sweden (under the alias of Mr G.) as a competitive tennis player, keeping up competitive tennis until his 80s.

Swedish coat of arms (version without the ermine mantling, the compartment and the supporters) surrounded by Seraphim Order's Chain divides value and date.

The coat of arms consists of a shield, quartered by a cross and divided into four shields, and an inescutcheon containing the dynastic arms of the Royal House. The main shield has a royal crown (a heraldic representation of the crown of King Eric XIV) on top and is surrounded by the insignia of the Order of the Seraphim.

The Three Crowns are in the first and fourth fields. In the second and third fields three white bending streams are shown, with an upright crowned lion displaying red tongue and red claws (This is from the coat of arms of The House of Bjelbo also known as Folkung).

The inescutcheon has the arms for the House of Bernadotte. On the top left of the inescutcheon there is the azure background with an eagle and stars above it.

The Royal Order of the Seraphim (Swedish: Kungliga Serafimerorden) is a Swedish order of chivalry created by King Frederick I on 23 February 1748. Since the reorganization of the orders in 1975, the Order of the Seraphim is only awarded to foreign heads of state and members of the royal family.
