The coin dedicated to 1950 years since the death of the martyrs Saint Peter and Paul the Apostle.
Saint Peter (ca. 1 – between AD 64 and 68), also known as Simon Peter, according to the New Testament, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, leaders of the early Christian Great Church. He is traditionally counted as the first Bishop of Rome—or pope—and also by Eastern Christian tradition as the first Patriarch of Antioch.
Paul the Apostle (c. 5 – c. 67), commonly known as Saint Paul and also known by his native name Saul of Tarsus, was an apostle (though not one of the Twelve Apostles) who taught the gospel of the Christ to the first century world.
Together, the two saints are the founders of the See of Rome, through their preaching, ministry and martyrdom there.
