Edward Teller (Hungarian: Teller Ede; 1908–2003), known as "the father of the hydrogen bomb," was a Hungarian-American physicist and engineer. He contributed significantly to nuclear and theoretical physics, notably during the Manhattan Project, where he helped develop the first atomic bomb. Alongside Stanislaw Ulam, he played a crucial role in creating the hydrogen bomb, a milestone in the Cold War arms race. Teller also had a distinguished academic career, teaching at prestigious institutions like the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Chicago. Despite his scientific achievements, Teller's advocacy for nuclear weapons and controversial involvement in political matters, including testifying against J. Robert Oppenheimer, have sparked debate over his legacy.
