Description

The Vienna Philharmonic gold coin, named in honour of Vienna’s world-renowned orchestra, was first issued on October 10, 1989. Since the Euro wasn’t adopted until 2002, the original face value was 2,000 Austrian Shillings. Nowadays, it’s worth €100. According to the World Gold Council, it was the best-selling gold coin worldwide in 1992, 1995 and 1996.

It is issued every year, in different face values, sizes and weights. It is used as an investment product (bullion coin).

Introduced in February 2008, the silver Philharmonic, had a face value of €1.50. The release of the first platinum Philharmonic bullion coin, at the 2016 World Money Fair in Berlin, was the very first platinum coin of any series issued by the Austrian Mint in its entire history.
