Obverse

Depicts the coat of arms of Peru surrounded by the inscription "Central Reserve Bank of Peru", date below.

Peruvian coat of arms consisting of three elements: the top left section shows the vicuña, the national animal, representing the fauna of Peru; the tree in the top right section is the cinchona tree (the source of quinine, a powerful anti-malarial drug and the key flavorant in tonic water), representing the national flora; and the bottom cornucopia with coins spilling from it, represents the mineral resources of the country. It has a palm branch on its left and an laurel one on its right, tied by a ribbon, as well as a Holm oak Civic Crown above it. These represent God, gold, and glory.

Reverse

Depicts a white-winged guan moving right. A geometric design of vertical lines, the national Mint’s mark (LMA), the scientific name of the white-winged guan, Penelope albipennis, the denomination numerals, the name of the monetary unit and a symbol of the series - Concentric circles with a hummingbird are also featured.

The white-winged guan is a bird in the chachalaca, guan and curassow family Cracidae. This species survives in Lambayeque, Cajamarca and Piura, north-west Peru. This is a medium-sized cracid, 70 cm in length, and similar in general appearance to turkeys, with thin necks and small heads. This bird is critically endangered due to a severe loss of suitable habitat, and is also hunted for food. The current population estimated to be approximately 350 individuals.
