Description

The America the Beautiful Quarters are a series of 25-cent pieces (quarters) issued by the United States Mint from 2010 until at least 2021.

The Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho is made up of rugged mountains, deep canyons, and wild whitewater rivers, including the Main Salmon River and Middle Fork of the Salmon River. “Frank Church” was attached to the site’s name in honor of late U.S. Senator Frank Church, who played a leading role in its preservation. The area is the largest single connected wilderness in the contiguous States and contains four national forests.

Quarters are issued depicting designs of national parks and sites in the order of which that park or site was deemed a national site. Release date (national site date): November 4, 2019 (July 23, 1980).

The Salmon River is located in Idaho in the northwestern United States. The Salmon is also known as "The River of No Return". It flows for 425 miles (684 km) through central Idaho, draining a rugged, thinly populated watershed of 14,000 square miles (36,260 km2) and dropping more than 7,000 feet (2,130 m) between its headwaters, near Galena Summit above the Sawtooth Valley in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, and its confluence with the Snake River. It is one of the largest rivers in the continental United States without a single dam on its mainstem.

A drift boat is an evolution of the open-water dory, converted for use in rivers. The design is characterized by a wide, flat bottom, flared sides, a narrow, flat bow, and a pointed stern. It is this constant rocker that allows the boat to spin about its center for ease in maneuvering in rapids.
