The coat arms of Honduras were adopted in 1825 and show a round shield, surrounded by the motto "Republic of Honduras free sovereign and independent" and by two cornucopiae, a crest with a quiver of arrows and placed on a landscape.

The shield itself shows the triangle, based on the seal of the Central American Federation of the early 19th century, with two towers, a rainbow and sun. Between the towers a volcano is placed. The towers symbolise the defense readiness and the independence of the country. The triangle symbolizes equality and freedom.

The lempira is the currency of Honduras. It is subdivided into 100 centavos. The lempira was named after the 16th-century cacique Lempira, a ruler of the indigenous Lenca people, who is renowned in Honduran folklore for leading the (ultimately unsuccessful) local native resistance against the Spanish conquistador forces.
