Obverse

Depicts the logo of the 60th Anniversary of Independence where the number 6 is part of a machine (represents work) and the number 0 is an open book (represents science) in the middle surrounded by the flag of Algeria above, some soldiers on the right, jet, rockets, tank and battleship on the left, and day of war 5 July, Arabic inscription "Independence Day" with issue date in the Islamic, and Berber calendars above and in Gregorian below.

The Berber calendar, used by Berbers for agricultural purposes, traces its roots to the Roman Julian calendar from the provinces of Mauretania Caesariensis and Africa. Unlike the lunar Islamic calendar, which isn't suitable for agriculture, the Berber calendar aligns with seasonal cycles. It has replaced indigenous calendars in Berber regions, retaining month names from Latin, and stands as a legacy of historical influences.

The national flag of Algeria consists of two equal vertical bars, green and white, charged in the centre with a red star and crescent, a symbol of Islam as the nation's prominent faith. The flag was adopted on 3 July 1962.
