Functioning as a Muslim theocracy, the dynasty ruled for one hundred and fifty years from its capital, Tahert (modern-day Tagdemt), until it was defeated by the Ismaili Fatimid Caliphate. The reach of Rustamid authority encompassed central and western Algeria, parts of southern Tunisia, and the Jebel Nafusa and Fezzan regions in Libya, extending as far as Zawila.
