Crocodiles, part of the Crocodylidae family, inhabit tropical regions globally. The term "crocodile" is often used broadly to include all members of the Crocodilia order. While they share similarities, crocodiles, alligators, and gharials have distinct features. Crocodiles have longer, narrower heads with a V-shaped snout, differing from the U-shaped snouts of alligators. They also display more webbing on hind feet and higher saltwater tolerance. Crocodiles are known for their aggression. These semiaquatic creatures, found in freshwater habitats, are carnivorous and face extinction risks, with some species classified as critically endangered. They originated about 55 million years ago during the Eocene epoch.
