The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), situated on the bank of the Danube in Budapest, between Széchenyi rakpart and Akadémia utca, stands as Hungary's most prominent and esteemed scholarly society. Its core duties encompass advancing scientific research, disseminating findings, supporting research and development endeavors, and representing Hungarian scientific achievements both domestically and internationally.
Established in 1825, spurred by Count István Széchenyi's generous offer during a district session of the Diet in Pressburg (Pozsony, now Bratislava), the academy's initial focus was on nurturing the Hungarian language and promoting scientific and artistic endeavors in Hungarian. It officially adopted its present name in 1845. The academy's primary edifice, designed in the Renaissance Revival architectural style by Friedrich August Stüler, was inaugurated in 1865.
