Gyula Derkovits (13 April 1894, Szombathely - 18 June 1934, Budapest) was a Hungarian painter and graphic artist known for his blend of Expressionism, Cubism, and Constructivism.
Initially trained at the Hungarian Royal Drawing School and later at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts, Derkovits was influenced by various contemporary artistic movements. His works often portrayed Hungarian rural life, peasant culture, and the struggles of the working class, characterized by vibrant colors, bold lines, and dynamic compositions reflecting his social and political concerns.
Despite his short career due to his premature death at 39, Gyula Derkovits left a significant mark on Hungarian art. He is recognized as a pioneering figure in modern Hungarian painting, celebrated for his emotionally resonant works and social commentary.
