The European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), also called the European pond terrapin, is a freshwater turtle native to Europe and parts of Asia. They live in slow-moving or stagnant bodies of water like ponds and marshes, eating plants, insects, and occasionally small fish. Threatened by habitat loss and illegal trade, conservation efforts include habitat protection and breeding programs.
