The Eurasian otter (Lutra Lutra) is a semi-aquatic mammal from the Mustelidae family, which also includes weasels, badgers, and minks. Found across Europe, Asia, and parts of North Africa, they have a streamlined body, dense fur, webbed feet, and a long, muscular tail for swimming agility. Otters are mainly carnivorous, eating fish, crustaceans, amphibians, and sometimes small mammals and birds. They adapt well to various aquatic habitats like rivers, lakes, coastal areas, and estuaries. Usually solitary, they mark territories with scent to communicate. Threatened by habitat loss, pollution, hunting, and persecution in the 20th century, conservation efforts, including habitat restoration and legal protection, have aided some population recoveries.
