Description

The 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, known as UEFA Euro 2024 or simply Euro 2024, was the 17th edition of the quadrennial international football tournament organized by UEFA for European men's national teams. Hosted by Germany from 14 June to 14 July 2024, the tournament featured 24 teams, including debutants Georgia. This was the third time Germany hosted European Championship matches and the first in former East Germany, with Leipzig as a host city. It was also the first major tournament in Germany since the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Italy, the defending champions, were eliminated by Switzerland in the round of 16. Host nation Germany was knocked out by Spain in the quarter-finals. Spain won the tournament for a record fourth time, defeating England 2–1 in the final, marking England's second consecutive final appearance.

Reverse

Depicts an architectural view of a stadium with the Portuguese national emblem at the top center. The design features the German flag, representing the host country, on the left, and the Portuguese flag on the right. The inscriptions "5 EURO" and "PORTUGAL" indicate the face value and issuing country, respectively. At the bottom, "UEFA EURO 2024" marks the celebrated event.

The coat of arms of Portugal, commonly known as the Cinco Quinas (Five Quinas) or simply the Quinas, features five escutcheons arranged in a cross, each with five bezants. Established in the late 14th century, these bezants are often interpreted as symbolizing the five wounds of Jesus Christ. The shield in front includes seven golden castles, representing the Moorish castles conquered during the Reconquista. Behind the shield is an armillary sphere, a navigational instrument symbolizing Portugal's significance during the Age of Discovery.
