The barn owl (Tyto alba) is the most widely distributed owl species, found nearly everywhere except polar and desert regions, and parts of Asia and the Pacific. It is known for its heart-shaped facial disc and mottled grey or brown plumage on its back, with white or brown underparts. Unlike typical owls, barn owls don't hoot but emit a drawn-out screech. They are primarily nocturnal hunters, relying on their acute hearing to catch small mammals. Barn owls usually mate for life, nesting in hollow trees or old buildings. Despite local threats, the species is globally listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
