Description

The Emperor Angelfish (Pomacanthus imperator) is a strikingly beautiful tropical fish known for its vibrant, blue and yellow striped body with a distinct dark eye-band and electric blue edging. Found in the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around coral reefs, this angelfish can grow up to 15 inches (38 cm) in length. Emperor angelfish go through a fascinating transformation as they mature, with juveniles displaying a completely different pattern of circular blue and white stripes before developing the adult coloration. They feed primarily on sponges and algae, playing a role in maintaining reef health. The Emperor Angelfish is popular in the aquarium trade, though its sensitivity to changes in water quality means it requires careful management.

Obverse

Depicts an official emblem of the Laurent Kabila regime: a mature male lion standing to the left amid the grass, symbolizing strength and authority. Above the lion is the country’s name in French, and the denomination is placed below.

Kabila’s regime, which began in 1997 after he overthrew Mobutu Sese Seko, was characterized by efforts to rebuild the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) after decades of dictatorship. His government sought to restore national sovereignty, but faced internal conflict and external pressures, particularly during the Second Congo War.
