Description

The Royal Mint continues it's wonderfully creative Portrait of Britain series of exploring Britain's unique heritage with a nostalgic celebration of the country's seaside. This silver Proof set celebrates the individual character and charm of 4 much loved seaside towns: Brighton, Blackpool, Tenby and Southwold.

These contemporary designs enjoy a special trichromatic colour printing technique on sterling silver and finished to a pristine Proof quality. This innnovative printing process, which showcases the skill of The Royal Mint's craftsmanship, creates a delicate watercolour-like effect that has to be seen first-hand to be truly admired.

The fifth crowned portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the George IV State Diadem and drop earrings.

The George IV State Diadem, officially the Diamond Diadem, is a type of crown that was made in 1820 for King George IV. The diadem is worn by queens and queens consort in procession to coronations and State Openings of Parliament. The piece of jewelry has been featured in paintings and on stamps and currency. It can be seen in the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace.

ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA FIDEI DEFENSATRIX means Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen and Defender of the Faith.

Depicts Blackpool Tower.

Blackpool is a seaside resort on the Lancashire coast in North West England. Blackpool rose to prominence and as a major centre of tourism in England when a railway was built in the 1840s connecting it to the industrialised regions of Northern England. Blackpool's major attractions and landmarks include Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Illuminations, the Pleasure Beach, Blackpool Zoo, Sandcastle Water Park, the Winter Gardens, and the UK's only surviving first-generation tramway.

Blackpool Tower was opened to the public on 14 May 1894. Inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, it is 518 feet (158 metres) tall and is the 120th tallest freestanding tower in the world. Blackpool Tower is also the common name for Tower buildings, an entertainment complex in a red-brick three-storey block comprising the tower, the ground floor aquarium and cafeteria, Tower Circus, the Tower Ballroom and roof gardens that was designated a Grade I listed building in 1973.
