The America the Beautiful Quarters are a series of 25-cent pieces (quarters) issued by the United States Mint from 2010 until at least 2021.
Fort McHenry — the birthplace of the national anthem of the United States of America — was named for James McHenry, 3rd United States Secretary of War. Following the burning of the US capitol and other federal buildings in August 1814, British forces attacked Baltimore. Francis Scott Key, a poet-lawyer, witnessed the September 13-14 bombardment of Fort McHenry while under British guard on an American truce ship in the Patapsco River. Seeing his country's flag still flying over the fort the next morning, he was moved to pen "The Star-Spangled Banner".
Quarters are issued depicting designs of national parks and sites in the order of which that park or site was deemed a national site. Release date (national site date): August 26, 2013 (March 3, 1925).
