The German Federal Republic’s Ministry of Finance and Munze Deutschland have launched a series which focuses on the great biodiversity of insects we share the planet with. Entitled the “Wonderful World of Insects,” the series will feature the Big Four, which encompasses beetles, dipterans (flies and mosquitoes), hymenoptera (bees, wasps, ants), and butterflies, of which 80% of all known insects belong to.
The series released within a two-year period beginning in 2022 and ending in 2024 and include nine coins in total.

The first design focused on the greater insect kingdom with a general insight into the world of insects. It depicts a diverse habitat with water, land, and air, as well as various insects that enliven this space. It is skilfully brought to the forefront visually by the delicate colouring and the filigree representation of the animal and plant world. Digital printing is used for the first time, in which colour is applied to the relief. The incused text “Insect Kingdom” placed below the primary design. The engraver's initials on the left. JT |
