The silver coin "Rumpelstiltskin" is the eleventh issue of the series Grimms' Fairy Tales, which started in 2012.

Grimms' Fairy Tales, originally known as the Children's and Household Tales (German: Kinder- und Hausmärchen), is a German collection of fairy tales by the Grimm brothers or "Brothers Grimm", Jacob and Wilhelm, first published on 20 December 1812. Vol. 1 of the first edition contained 86 stories, which were followed by 70 more tales, numbered consecutively, in the 1st edition, Vol. 2, in 1815. By the seventh edition in 1857, the corpus of tales had expanded to 200 tales and 10 "Children's Legends".

Obverse

Depicts a stylised German eagle with 12 stars representing the European Union. The state name and fineness below. The issue year, the denomination, and a mintmark above the eagle.

The coat of arms of Germany displays a black eagle with red feet, beak and tongue on a golden field. This is the Bundesadler or "Federal Eagle", formerly the Reichsadler or "Imperial Eagle". It is a re-introduction of the coat of arms of the Weimar Republic (in use 1919–1935) adopted by the Federal Republic of Germany in 1950. The current official design is due to Tobias Schwab (1887–1967) and was introduced in 1928.

Reverse

Depicts Rumpelstiltskin and the miller's daughter, who later becomes the queen in the fairy tale. Also shown is the cradle of her firstborn, which she had to promise to Rumpelstiltskin after he helped her spin large amounts of straw into gold for the king. After several failed attempts to guess the name of the strange man, Rumpelstiltskin finally reveals the name himself with the song "tonight tonight, my plans I make, tomorrow tomorrow, the baby I take. The queen will never win the game, for Rumpelstiltskin is my name", so that the queen can keep her child and Rumpelstiltskin splits himself in two full of rage. The inscriptions "Rumpelstiltskin" above and "Grimms' Fairy Tales" below. The engraver's initials on the left.

"Rumpelstiltskin" (German: Rumpelstilzchen) is a German fairy tale. It was collected by the Brothers Grimm in the 1812 edition of Children's and Household Tales.
