Obverse

Depicts a stylised German eagle with 12 stars representing the European Union. The state name and the issue year above. The fineness, the denomination, and a mintmark above the eagle.

The coat of arms of Germany displays a black eagle with red feet, beak and tongue on a golden field. This is the Bundesadler or "Federal Eagle", formerly the Reichsadler or "Imperial Eagle". It is a re-introduction of the coat of arms of the Weimar Republic (in use 1919–1935) adopted by the Federal Republic of Germany in 1950. The current official design is due to Tobias Schwab (1887–1967) and was introduced in 1928.

Reverse

Depicts Hans in Luck and the animals that he exchanges for each other in the course of the fairy tale. After Hans was rewarded for good work by his master with a lump of gold, he first exchanged it for a horse, which in turn was followed by other exchanges. In this way, one after the other, a cow, a pig, a goose and a grindstone came into his possession. When the grindstone finally falls into a well, Hans returns home to his mother completely without any possessions, but also completely free of worries, and tells her about his lucky story. The motive also features the inscriptions "Grimms' Fairy Tales" and "Hans in Luck" above. The engraver's initials below.

"Hans in Luck" (German: Hans im Glück) is a fairy tale of Germanic origin, recorded by the Brothers Grimm.
