Scaphiophryne gottlebei, known as the Malagasy rainbow frog, is a small, brightly colored species from Madagascar, featuring a striking pattern of white, orange-red, green, and black on its smooth back. Adapted for both burrowing and climbing, it has tubercles on its hind feet for digging and claws on its forefeet to cling to vertical canyon walls. Endemic to the Isalo Massif in southern Madagascar, it inhabits cool, humid canyons with little vegetation, often digging in sandy areas or hiding in rock crevices. Habitat loss and illegal capture for the pet trade pose significant threats to this endangered species.
