Tree frogs, or treefrogs, are arboreal species of frogs that spend most of their lives in trees. Despite not being closely related, various frog lineages have evolved similar traits through convergent evolution to adapt to life in high vegetation. Many tree frogs, especially those in seasonally dry environments, have developed a protective layer of lipids and mucus to prevent dehydration. Typically small and lightweight to navigate branches, tree frogs have specialized adhesive pads on their fingers and toes for gripping. Some species, like those in the genus Chiromantis, can even oppose their fingers for a stronger hold.
